Advising Center - Meet the Advising Center Staff

UNLV Academic Advising Mission Statement

The mission of academic advising is to assist students by collaborating with them in identifying and pursuing their educational goals, providing accurate and timely information, and promoting student responsibility and accountability for their academic success.

The staff in the College of Education Advising Center is excited to help you achieve your educational goals. Our full-time advisors meet with all education majors, while our graduate assistant academic advisors meet with Elementary Education majors. We look forward to meeting with you soon. Joyce Ahn

Joyce enjoys meeting with and helping students of diverse backgrounds achieve their educational goals. A native of South Korea , she is now a very happy Las Vegan, and appreciates the openness and the mild climate here. Joyce received both her undergraduate and graduate degrees in English from UNLV. Her interests include books and literature, old movies, ballet, Beethoven, and Bach. She also serves as the Managing Editor of The Ben Jonson Journal , a scholarly journal based at UNLV.

Monica Belalcazar
Clerical Trainee

Monica grew up in Southern California and recently moved to Las Vegas. She is currently working on her Bachelors in Elementary Education. She joined the College of Education in May 2007.  She enjoys watching soccer, traveling, shopping and hanging out with her family.

Chandler

Alison Chandler
Senior Academic Advisor

Alison was born and raised in New England, but lived in the southeast since she was 16 years old.  In 1997, she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from Spelman College in Atlanta, and after taking several years off from school, earned her Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology and Counseling from Tennessee Tech University in 2004.  Alison began her career as an Academic Advisor for undeclared students from her graduate school alma mater soon after, and joined the UNLV College of Education Advising staff in the summer of 2007.  Alison’s hobbies include interior decorating, shopping, traveling, and spending time with her husband and twin daughters

 

Maggie Livreri

Maggie Livreri
Graduate Assistant/Academic Advisor

Maggie is a first-year Master's student in the Educational Leadership program. She recently completed her undergraduate degree at UNLV in May 2006. During her college career she played softball for Colorado State University-Pueblo and UNLV. Currently, she is a volunteer assistant coach for the Women's Softball Team. She aspires to one day become an Athletic Advisor. Last summer, Maggie lived in Italy and has plans to return this summer. She enjoys going to concerts, traveling, reading, playing all kinds of sports, and spending time with my family.

Chris Sheldrick
Graduate Assistant Academic Advisor

Chris is a first year Master's student in the department of Higher Educational Leadership.  He completed his Business degree with an emphasis in Marketing at UNLV in Dec. 2005.  While going to school and working for COE advising, Chris also works for the NBA Summer League here in Las Vegas.  When Chris finishes his Master's degree, he hopes to become a full-time advisor on campus, or work with the NBA.  When there is free time, you can find him on a golf course, or fishing, camping, or hiking.

Administrative Assistant

Jenn is a lover of long walks on campus, and she enjoys spending time in the COE Advising Center . She helps keep our office functioning efficiently, and she is ready to answer all of your general questions. Jenn is native to Las Vegas and enjoys spending time in her hometown. She wishes all students the best during their education pursuits and hopes that the experience at UNLV is wonderful.
