TRANSFER CREDIT EVALUATION: COLLEGE OF EDUCATION (COE)

Upon admission to UNLV, the Office of the Registrar and Admissions determined which of your credits from other institutions were transferable. Subsequently, an academic advisor determined how the transferable courses fit into your degree program.

The following questions and answers will assist you in understanding your "Official Evaluation" of transfer credits.

1) I took a course at another institution that I believe is similar to one of UNLV's general education core requirements. However, it does not appear as such on my evaluation. What should I do?

Transfer Course Evaluation (TCE) Forms are used to determine degree-applicability of courses in the general education core . In other words, in order to determine if the general education course is actually equivalent to UNLV's course, you need a TCE Form. The forms can be completed with an advisor in the COE Advising Center (CEB 226). Complete the form during your appointment and your advisor will forward it to the UNLV department through which the course is offered. The department will decide whether the course is actually equivalent to the UNLV course. After the department signature is obtained, the COE Undergraduate Advising Center will contact you.

2) I took a course at another institution that I believe is similar to one of my major (education) courses. However, it does not appear as such on my evaluation. What should I do?

Substitution Forms are used to determine degree-applicability of courses in the College of Education. In other words, in order to determine if the education course is actually equivalent to UNLV's course, you need an approved Substitution Form. The forms can be completed with an advisor in the COE Advising Center (CEB 226). Complete the form during your appointment and your advisor will forward it to the UNLV department through which the course is offered. The department will decide whether the course is actually equivalent to the UNLV course, subject to confirmation by the Dean’s Office. After all signatures are obtained, the COE Undergraduate Advising Center will contact you.

3) Is there a limit to the number of credits I can transfer from another institution? No. However, you must eventually earn at least 62 credits from a 4-year institution.

4) Is it true that I have to earn my last several semesters of classes at UNLV as a student declared in the major under which I plan to graduate? Yes. You must earn your last 30 credits at UNLV as a declared student in the college from which you will graduate.

5) Do the grades I earned in courses at another institution affect my cumulative UNLV GPA? No. Your new GPA will be based on grades you earned at UNLV only.

6) What should I bring to my advising appointment? It is very important that you bring course descriptions (xerox copies from your catalogs) for all transfer courses about which there are questions. This includes courses for which you plan on completing a TCE or Substitution Form.
