| 1 | Meet the requirements for admission to the Graduate College of University of Nevada, Las Vegas, as set forth in the UNLV Graduate Catalog. |

|
| 2 | Hold a master's degree from an accredited program in an area closely related to the chosen field of specialization. Normally, 18 semester hours in professional education are required. |
|
|
|
| 3 | Have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher in all graduate level coursework. *Please note that one third of the total program hours may be transferred from another accredited doctoral program. |
|
|
|
| 4 | Have completed a minimum of two years of successful professional educational experience upon entrance to the program. |
|
|
|
| 5 | Submit three letters of recommendation from individuals who can specifically address the applicant's potential for success in the doctoral program. One of these letters must be from a university faculty member addressing your past academic success and future potential in the doctoral program. These letters should be sent directly to the Curriculum and Instruction (C&I) Department (see Contact Information herein). |

| 6 | One (1) set of official transcripts from all previously attended colleges and universities must be sent directly to the Graduate College (see Contact Information herein). |
|
|
|
| 7 | Submit Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores for the General Exam. The scores should be sent directly to the Graduate College. GRE scores have a time limitation of five (5) years. |
|
|
|
| 8 | Submit a letter of application to the Coordinators for Doctoral Studies of the C&I Department explaining, in detail: a) the reason(s) for pursuing the Ph.D.; b) expectations concerning the Ph.D. program; and, c) potential areas of study. |
|
|
|
| 9 | Submit a written statement of when the applicant plans to fulfill the residency requirement. Options for residency are listed herein and also in the Graduate Catalog under the College of Education listing. |
|
|
|
| The Coordinators for Doctoral Studies will screen applications to make sure the above criteria are met. Once that determination has been made, applicants will be invited to: | |

| 10 | Demonstrate writing skills by completing a written theme on a professional subject. Applicants will write the theme under examination conditions. It must be written and evaluated prior to a required interview. Out-of-state applicants must contact a Coordinator for Doctoral Studies directly to make arrangements for this requirement (see Contact Information herein).. |

|
| 11 | Demonstrate oral communication skills through an interview conducted by members of the C&I faculty. |
