Professor Ralph E. Reynolds joined the UNLV faculty in July of 2000. Previously, he had been Chair of the Department of Educational Studies at the University of Utah and a research fellow at the Center for the Study of Reading at the University of Illinois. He has received numerous research and teaching awards throughout his career including the Palmer O. Johnson award for outstanding research and the University of Utah, Graduate School of Education outstanding career research award. In 1998, he was elected president of the International Society for the Scientific Study of Reading. He currently serves as Foundations Doctoral Coordinator in the Department of Educational Psychology and Director of the UNLV Center for Evaluation and Assessment. He was recently inducted into the Clark County School District's "Excellence in Education Hall of Fame" for his contributions to improving the reading performance of district students.

Reynolds' main areas of research are: reading comprehension (background knowledge), prose comprehension, selective attention, the philosophical foundations of psychological learning theories and comprehending figurative language in text. He enjoys racquet ball, golf, reading, and traveling in his spare time.
