Educational Leadership

The primary mission of the Department of Educational Leadership is the development of individuals for leadership roles at all levels of education and related business/industry enterprises. Its scope includes PK-12 Education Leadership , Higher Education Leadership , and Workforce Education and Development . Our Department offers several programs, many of which involve theoretical constructs and practitioner training for those interested in careers as public or private educational leaders, policy analysis, and teachers in business and industry occupations that require educational and leadership skills or degrees focusing on educational research.

PK-12 Education Leadership

UNLV/CCSD Collaborative Principal Preparation Program (M.Ed.)

The UNLV/CCSD Collaborative Principal Preparation program is a master's degree program offered through the Department of Educational Leadership and leads to Nevada PK-12 administrative licensure. Specifically designed as a collaborative effort between the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and the Clark County School District, teachers and specialists currently employed by the Clark County School District who are nominated by the district may be considered for admission. Selected participants complete degree requirements in a two-year cohort program. One cohort is selected each year and begins the program in the fall semester.

An important part of this program is the field experience opportunities offered to participants. Each cohort member is assigned a mentor principal who is a practicing administrator in the Clark County School District. Program participants will complete over 200 hours of field based work with their assigned mentor. Cohort members find this to be a valuable learning experience and an important networking and support system. A major strength of the program is the collegiality provided by the cohort itself. A sense of espirit de corps is developed among the cohort and a sense of tradition and support system has been built between cohort classes.

Electronic networking is supported through the use of a private bulletin board and chat area for cohort members on the Clark County School District's Interact messaging network.
