PEX 100 ARCHERY

This course covers the fundamentals of archery, including: aiming, release, scoring, terminology, historical knowledge, appreciation for, and sporting opportunities in archery.

PEX 101 BACKPACKING AND CAMPING

Explore this regions natural beauty! Students will have the opportunity to go on a planned backpacking and camping trip. The class also covers the appropriate use of equipment, safe travel techniques, basic orienteering, and emergency situations.

PEX 102 BADMINTON

Fundamentals of badminton will be covered in this class, including: instruction in game rules, stroking technique, court positioning and game strategy. Both singles and doubles games will be discussed with plenty of opportunity for game and tournament play.

PEX 103 BICYCLING

This aerobic course introduces students to the lifetime leisure activity of bicycling. Bicycling can be considered a leisure activity as well as a great source of physical fitness. Students will learn bike fundamentals and safety as well as build up endurance for distance rides. Both recreational and competitive riding will be covered.

PEX 104 BILLIARDS

Instruction in basic skills, including bridge forming, stroke techniques, bank shots, and cue ball spin. Upon completion of this course the student should be knowledgeable and proficient at: enjoying the game of billiards, demonstrating and understanding the proper techniques for different shots and leaves, understanding the rules and strategies, identifying the etiquette, safety considerations, and basic terminology associated with billiards.

PEX 104C BILLIARDS (Advanced)

Prerequisite: PEX 104

Focuses more on the development of technical skill and mental concentration.

PEX 105 BOWLING

This skill course introduces students to the lifetime activity of bowling. This will be a fundamental course, teaching the basics of the game from scoring to the actual playing. Students will receive individual and group instruction. They will also bowl (3) three games each session.

There is a minimal charge for the lines and shoes for students of this class.

PEX 107 GOLF

Beginning instruction on techniques for putting, chipping, pitching, iron swing, and wood strokes. Course includes covering the rules and etiquette of golf along with a focus on mental aspects.

PEX 107A GOLF (Intermediate)

Prerequisite: PEX 107

Provides the students with a more in-depth look at the game of golf. Focusing more on the short game, course management, and the technical aspects of the swing.

PEX 116A SCUBA DIVING (Beginning)

Prerequisite: Good health and the ability to pass the basic swim test: A 200-meter surface swim, a 15-meter underwater swim, and a 10-minute tread water exercise. Equipment required : Mask, snorkel, fins, boots. Equipment supplied : Air cylinders, buoyancy compensator, weight belt, wet suit, hood. Certification : An international card will be issued upon the successful completion of all classroom, pool, and lake training. Field trip : Students must attend two days of diving in open water at Lake Mead in order to be certified. 2 credits

PEX 116B SCUBA DIVING (Advanced)

Prerequisite: PEX 116A or a scuba certification - 2 credits

Equipment required : Mask, snorkel, fins, boots, gloves, dive log, dive tables, and underwater flashlight. Equipment supplied : Tanks, regulator, buoyancy compensator, weight belt, weights, and wet suit. Certification : An international advanced scuba diver card will be issued through NAUI upon completion of the class requirements. Field trip : (1) One trip to San Diego , California . Transportation and lodging is the student's responsibility, plus a $20 trip fee. (2) Two field trips to Lake Mead plus one bonus trip to Lake Mead . No extra charges for Lake Mead

PEX 120A SWIMMING (Beginning)

Beginning students with no swimming skills will learn basic stroke techniques and water survival. Others will be able to learn additional basic swimming strokes and work on stroke improvement for strokes already known, or if you just want to work out for competition or better health, you will receive benefits from this course.

PEX 120B SWIMMING (Intermediate)

PEX 120C ADVANCED SWIMMING AND LIFESAVING

This course includes advanced swimming and lifesaving techniques

PEX 120D SWIM INSTRUCTOR TRAINING (WSI)

Prerequisite: Must complete a safety skill screening, a written pre-course exam, an instructor candidate training course, have a current CPR/First Aid Certificate, and be at least 17 years of age. Successful completion of all written and skills test will result in Red Cross certification. A $10 fee is required for the Red Cross certification.

PEX 120E LIFEGUARD TRAINING

Prerequisite:

(1) Must be able to swim 500 yards non-stop, demonstrate the freestyle, breast, and side strokes,

(2) recover a 10-pound object from the bottom of the pool, and (3) tread water for two minutes using legs only. This class is designed to give students the skills necessary for swimming pool lifeguard jobs. Students will learn advanced CPR and basic first aid skills as well as life saving techniques.

PEX 122A TENNIS (Beginning)

This skill course introduces students to the lifetime activity of tennis. This will be a fundamental course, teaching the basics of the game from scoring to the actual playing. This class covers the basic fundamentals of tennis techniques, rules, equipment, and a general knowledge base to broaden the student's appreciation and enjoyment of the game.

PEX 122B TENNIS (Intermediate/Advanced)

Prerequisite: PEX 122A

This class focuses on more aggressive playing ability. Students develop more dependable strokes, with directional intent, depth, and pace with both forehand and backhand. Students begin to master the use of power, spins, lobs, overheads, and serves with more power and accuracy.

PEX 123 RACQUETBALL

This course is an introductory course designed to provide basic skills, techniques, and strategies of racquetball. The focus is on learning the game, rules, safety, and sportsmanship. The course will also cover rules for singles and doubles play and provide students with lots of time for game and tournament play.

PEX 123B RACQUETBALL (Intermediate)

Prerequisite: PEX 123

Focuses on more difficult shots of kill shots, back wall play, ceiling shots, and a variety of serves.

PEX 123C RACQUETBALL (Advanced)

Prerequisite: PEX 123B
Focuses on a more aggressive fast-paced game. Students master all aspects of the game both physically and mentally.

PEX 124A TABLE TENNIS (Beginning)

Basic skills and mechanics of Table Tennis are covered in this course. Table Tennis play techniques, introduction to fundamental rules, and regulations are also covered.

PEX 124B TABLE TENNIS (Advanced)

Prerequisite: PEX 124A
Focuses on more aggressive play and strategies.

PEX 134 T'AI CHI CH'UAN

A beginning course consisting of 17 postures (of 37 total) of the Cheng, Man Ch'ing short forms of the Yang style. This is Part I of three sections. T'ai Chi Ch'uan is for the cultivation of the mind, body, and spirit.

PEX 134A T'AI CHI CH'UAN (Intermediate)

Prerequisite: PEX 134
Continuation of PEX 134 consisting of Parts II and III of the Yang style short form (completion of 42 postures).

PEX 137 ICE SKATING SKILLS (Beginning)

The basic fundamentals are taught which include forward and backward skating and stopping, skating in circles both forward and backward. Learn how to skate from professional coaches. Basic techniques will be the primary focus.

PEX 137B ICE SKATING SKILLS (Intermediate)

Prerequisite: PEX 137
Learn advanced skating skills and techniques. For the advanced skater only. Power skating, edge work, and balance will be predominant in the course.

PEX 143 ROCK CLIMBING (Beginning)

Introduction to rock climbing is designed to provide the basic principles, methods, and techniques of rock climbing.

PEX 143A ROCK CLIMBING (Intermediate)

Prerequisite: PEX 143
Designed to build on the skills of PEX 143. Expanding into the advanced techniques of lead and outdoor sport climbing.

PEX 147 SOCCER

This course will introduce you to the basic and intermediate skills of soccer, including passing, dribbling, feinting, shooting, juggling, collecting, and positional play. Small-sided games will be practiced to incorporate these skills to lead up to game play.

PEX 148A VOLLEYBALL (Beginning)

This skill course introduces students to the lifetime activity of volleyball. This will be a fundamental course, teaching the basics of the game from scoring to the actual playing. This course will also cover volleyball etiquette. The class will play two on two, three on three, and standard volleyball.

PEX 148B VOLLEYBALL (Advanced)

Prerequisite: PEX 148A
Some playing experience and knowledge of the game is necessary. The course will focus on improving fundamental skills and playing strategies.

PEX 184 FENCING (Beginning)

Instruction in basic skills for fencing. Positioning, footwork, offensive and defensive skills, and directing and judging of a fencing bout. Upon completion of this course a student should be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of fencing history and terminology, perform basic skills of foil fencing in context of fencing bout and officiate a fencing bout as a judge or director and be able to apply the rules and ethics of fencing from this perspective.

PEX 184B FENCING (Intermediate/Advanced)

Prerequisite: PEX 184
Covers more advanced techniques of attack, defense, and retaliation, counter-attacks, deception, and bouts. Also covers fencing competitions.

PEX 195-6 Latin Dancing

This class introduces the student to Latin dances, Salsa, Cha Cha, and Merengue. The class will raise the students awarness of social dance forms as important and stimulating outlets for personaland cultural expressions.
