R. R. Goyakla Apache

Dr. Apache is an Assistant Professor in the Sports Education Leadership Program. Having enjoyed a very rewarding career as a research engineer involved as Lead Investigator in several onsite investigations of petrochemical plant explosions he decided to change careers and become involved with assisting individuals with disabilities. Returning back to school to earn a Masters degree in adapted physical education, working as an itinerate adapted physical education teacher and consultant and then pursuing a doctorate in Human Performance has been both a pleasure and a challenge. Currently Dr. Apache is involved in implementing a collaborative parent orientation program for youth sports through the City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department. Providing services to the community through the creation of adapted aquatics programs for individuals with multiple sclerosis and other disorders, as well as assisting with the development of exercise programs for the elderly are among the many projects that keep him busy.

Research Interests:

• Developing and assessing land-based and aquatic-based exercise programs for individuals with disabilities (multiple sclerosis, arthritis, and other neurological disorders).
• Developing school-based physical education curriculum for preschool and primary age children.
• Developing school-based motor development curriculum for elementary grades.
• Developing a community centered parent orientation program for youth sports with opportunities to evaluate resultant parent behavior.
