Project Nexus is a collaboration between the Student Services Division of the Clark County School District (CCSD) and the special education program at UNLV. Project Nexus focuses on recruiting support staff (i.e., instructional assistants, specialized program teachers assistants, long-term substitutes) with bachelor's degrees to join an ARL program to become a licensed special education teacher (e.g., Autism, Generalist) in CCSD. Cohort members complete nine credit hours of course work and supervised clinical experience in their first semester, and then are eligible for hire in the subsequent semester. The Student Services Division pays 40% of their tuition. Thus far, 25 candidates have been recruited to participate in Project Nexus. Almost 50% of recruited candidates are from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
