Biographical Description: Dr. Thomas B. Pierce, received his Ph.D. in special education from the University of New Mexico in 1989. He has been at UNLV since 1990. His specialty areas are in severe disabilities, inclusive practices, and policy. Dr. Pierce has been the department chair since 1998. He has served as past coordinator of the intellectual disabilities program and as Interim Dean and Interim Associate Dean for the College of Education. In 2007-2008 he received the UNLV Outstanding Department Chair award. Dr. Pierce is a member of numerous state and national boards and commissions that influence the policy of special education services. Currently, Dr. Pierce is the Co-Project director of the Nevada Child Care Subsidy Project, a state grant of over $26,000,000.00 over four years, the largest grant ever received in the College of Education. Recently, he has been named co-director of Project CONNECT, a federal personnel preparation grant to train new teachers in autism and intellectual disabilities. Dr. Pierce is an associate editor for Intervention in School and Clinic.
