Terrorism Awareness: Protecting Soft Targets
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas, has developed a specialized train-the-trainer program designed to meet the needs of security professionals in three primary environments: hotels/ resorts/ casinos, large shopping malls, and large entertainment / sports / conference / tourist venues.
The training program is being made available specifically for in-house trainers and managers of security personnel. This program, supported by a grant from the U. S. Department of Homeland Security, Office of Grants and Training (G&T) integrates G&T training goals and objectives with an understanding of the special response considerations faced by security personnel in hotels, resorts, casinos, shopping malls, and venues or tourist attractions with large audiences.
The Frontline Responder Train the Trainer Course is a 2-day training course providing an overview of terrorism awareness; facilitated seminars in defining the threat, identifying the potential targets of the terrorist, terrorist options in delivering an attack, and the Homeland Security role of the security professional. The course also provides seminars in chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive agents that may be used as weapons of mass destruction (WMDs), improvised explosive device (IED) recognition, and indicators of suspicious activity. The course concludes with an instructor-led practical exercise in taking a critical look at the participants' properties and post-incident actions to be taken to secure an incident scene.
The course is taught by nationally recognized experts in Homeland Security. All Master Instructors are certified trainers.
