What is the Elementary Teacher Education Program at the Paradise PDS?

The elementary teacher education program at the Paradise PDS is an undergraduate three semester process of become an elementary classroom teacher.

All teacher education classes are held at the Paradise Elementary School or at the Bennett Professional Development Center located next door to the Paradise PDS. Beginning with their first semester, elementary education majors will interact with the teachers, staff, principal, and most importantly, the children of Paradise Elementary. This cohort, of UNLV students become an important part of the school as they learn teaching practices from UNLV faculty and experienced classroom teachers.

UNLV students who complete this program will be licensed by the State of Nevada as elementary teachers and have6 credit hours in Teaching English as second language.

Should I apply for the Elementary Teacher Education Program at the Paradise Elementary Professional Development School?

If you can answer "yes" to each the following, then this program may be for you:

  1. Am I currently enrolled in or will complete ICE 201, 234, EDA 200, ESP 444, EPY 303 and ICG 280, and ICG 415 by the start of Semester 1?
  2. Am I scheduled to take the PPST? Do I understand that I must have passing scores for all three parts, before the start of Semester 1 for this program?
  3. Have I completed the vast majority of university core requirements with no core classes remaining at the time I begin the program?
  4. Am I able to participate in the program Mondays - Fridays from 8:30 am - 3:30 pm?
  5. Am I able to follow the CCSD schedule for 9 months (Aug. - May)?
  6. Do I wish to teach children who may have needs beyond academics and are eager to learn?
  7. Do I wish to teach children who may not speak English as their first language?
  8. Do I consider myself a "life-long" learner?

How do I apply for the Elementary Teacher Education Program at the Paradise Professional Development School?
