Overview

The graduate program in Workforce Education and Development provides advanced preparation for workforce educators in a variety of settings and offers a Master of Science (M.S.) and Master of Education (M.Ed.) with concentrations in Workplace Learning and Performance (formerly Training and Development), Teaching & Leadership , and Graduate Teacher Licensure.

Since the majority of our students are working adults, courses are offered through a combination of evening, Saturday, intensive weekend, and online formats.

Degree Requirements (M.Ed./M.S.)

Students majoring in Workforce Education & Development can pursue either a Master of Education (M.Ed.) or a Master of Science (M.S). The differences are listed below:

Admission Requirements

  1. A completed Application for Admission to the Graduate College
  2. Two copies of official transcripts (one to the Graduate College and one to the Department of Educational Leadership) from all institutions attended after high school.
  3. A minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or a 3.0 for the last 2 years of undergraduate work is required.
  4. Adequate undergraduate prerequisites or work experience in a teaching field.
  5. Two letters of recommendation.
  6. GRE or MAT score
  7. Resume

A maximum of 12 credit hours may be transferred into the program, if taken recently from accredited institution(s). For students who were enrolled as a non-admitted graduate student at UNLV, a maximum of 15 graduate credits taken at UNLV may be applied toward a graduate degree program. All previously earned credits must be approved by the student's graduate committee, the Department Chair, the College of Education Dean, and the Graduate Dean.

EDW 731 Externship for Credit

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas is offering a unique program for undergraduate and graduate students, educators, counselors, and administrators at all levels to spend time at a worksite with employees of business, labor, non-profit organizations, or a government agency. The course is offered during the Summer Semester. Interested students must submit an Externship application to the Department of Educational Leadership (CEB 320) before registering for the course. Once the application is complete, the department will issue the course call number that will allow you to register. During this course, participants will be placed within a business/industry in their area of instruction or interest. Hours and days are flexible per industry request and participant schedules. *A minimum of fifty (50) hours is required at an approved worksite along with attending class meetings.
