COE Education Student Services Center

Welcome to the College of Education's Education Student Services Center! We provide academic advising and coordinate field placement for undergraduate, second baccalaureate, Alternate Route to Licensure, Troops to Teachers, and Teach for America students. Our goal is to help you become the best Rebel teacher that you can be! You can find out more about our center and the services we offer by clicking on the links to your left.

Our center provides advising services to the following students:

  • All students pursuing a Bachelor's degree in the College of Education (Human Services, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, and Special Education) and/or minoring in Human Services, Addiction Treatment, or Secondary Education.
  • UNLV students in other majors who are considering changing their major/minor to Education.
  • Students pursuing a second Bachelor's degree, Alternate Route to Licensure (for those who already have a Bachelor's degree in anything besides Education but want to become teachers), the Teach for America program, and Troops to Teachers program.
  • Prospective students who are interested in any of the various majors and/or minors offered through the College of Education.
Notice to Fall 2017 Field Work Students: CCSD August 9th start date will impact those students taking EDEL 313, EDSC 313, EDEL 481, EDSC 481, ECE 483, ECE 491, EDSP 487, and EDSP 491. Any student taking any of the above classes in Fall 2017 will begin on August 9th. Please note that this is prior to the date that university classes are scheduled to begin.
Nevada School Law Requirement: Governor Sandoval signed into law a bill that removed the requirements of Nevada School Law, Nevada Constitution, and US Constitution tests from teacher licensure in the state of Nevada. Instead, teachers will attend a professional development related to these topic areas during their first year of teaching.

Advising Appointments

New and prospective students

All freshmen are required to attend New Student Orientation over the summer and a mandatory group advising session in the fall semester. Transfer students are encouraged to attend orientation but must meet with an advisor first in order to begin taking classes at UNLV. Please call our office at 702-895-1537 to schedule your first advising appointment.

Continuing students

Contact the ESSC at 702-895-1537 to schedule your advising appointment. We suggest you always book your appointments early each semester, especially if you need to meet an application deadline.

ARL Advising

In addition to normal operation hours, the ESSC offers extended advising hours for ARL students on Mondays and Wednesdays until 7PM.

Drop-in Advising

Drop-in advising is offered on Wednesdays from 9AM to 1PM and 2PM to 4PM during the fall and spring semesters (drop-in is not available during finals week, breaks, or summers). Times and days are subject to change if necessary; please keep an eye out in your WebCampus announcements section for changes in scheduling. Drop-in sessions will last 10 to 15 minutes and are offered on a first come, first serve basis.

Drop-in advising is perfect for quick questions and general tips. We do not do course planning or answer complex questions during drop-in hours; please schedule an appointment if those are your needs. Students cannot receive permission to apply for field experience during a drop-in advising session; a full appointment must be scheduled.

Student Services Center Hours:
Monday-Friday 8am-5pm
Wednesdays: 8am-7pm (Excluding all major university breaks and summer semester)

College of Education Applications

Every student in the College of Education starts their program as a pre-major; to be considered for full admission you must have met all full-major requirements for your particular major/program. An academic advisor will go over the requirements with you and help you develop a plan of study that will indicate the specific semester you will be applying for full major. Complete the attached application for your major by the due date for the semester in which you are applying. Applications for fall are due March 1 and for spring are due October 1. Late applications will not be accepted.
